Arnold Thuganmu Watt1941-2006

Arnold Watt left school at the age of 15 and moved to the mainland to work on cattle stations and carry out general farm work. He returned to Mornington Island in 1959 and continued to travel to and from the mainland. Arnold Watt married in 1967 and had four children. He remained on Mornington Island and began painting in 1968. He had watched his father paint boomerangs and shields as a boy and learnt to enjoy painting himself.

Arnold Watt was one of the earliest artsist at the Mornington Island Arts and Crafts Centre at Gunana but has now been joined by other artists "painting culture painting, our way, working with me." - Mornington Island Arts and Crafts Centre, Gunana, Mornington Island
