Artist Info
Jacques Etiene Victor AragoFrench, 1790 - 1855

Jacques Arago was an accomplished watercolourist and marine draughtsman and employed on Louis de Freycinet's officially-sponsored French expedition around the world aboard the URANIE in 1817 - 1820. Although Arago made numerous drawings throughout the voyage, it is his brief time in the Hawaiian Islands and his subsequent publication of his work "Voyage autour du monde" that he is most remembered for.

Arago subsequently lost his sight in 1837 but was still very productive in journalism and writing for the theatre. He also continued to travel and died in Rio de Janerio in 1855.
