BiographyBorn in Russia, Swiss father, studied in London, arrived in Australia in 1854. Worked as an illustrator for Melbourne 'Punch' magazine and the Illustrated Australian News. In 1864 one of his works was purchased by the NGV, the work painted in Australian to be acquired by them. In 1865 he travelled to New Zealand. In 1869 he joined the voyage of HMS GALATEA for its return voyage to London via Asia and the Pacific. He exhibited works from the voyage in South Kensington.
