DescriptionThis collection of 24 postcards features images of naval ships and maritime subjects. The poscards feature images of the following vessels HMS DUNCAN, HMS EXMOUTH, HMAS HYACINTH, HMAS BRISBANE, HMAS CASTLEMAINE, HMAS DARWIN, HMAS MORESBY, HMCS PROTECTOR, HMAS SUPPLY, CALIFORNIA, USS CONNECTICUT; PRINCESS OF TASMANIA; CANBERRA; and images of Oberon class submarines, fleet ships in south east Asian waters; United States navy; the America's cup 1987; 12 meter America's cup trials 1987; Newport shipyard, Virginia; a summer day on the Swan river; Sydney Harbour near Fort Denison; coaling a warship at sea and two warships at anchor. The postcards span the period 1906 - 1987. This archival collection was assembled by Alan Rice whilst serving as a merchant seaman in the Australian coastal trade.
