DescriptionThese blue men's swimming trunks were worn by a member of the Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club surf boat crew in the 1990s. They feature the club's logo and the text 'Tamarama / SLSC / Boaties' printed in white on the left hip, and the manufacturer's logo on the left. Made by Spank, the brief-style swimming trunks are made of nylon and have a black drawstring around the waist.HistoryUp until the 1960s and 1970s a vintage style march-past design was used at surf carnivals, perpetuating the classic 1930s image of the lifesaver as the bronzed hero of the Australian beach. By the 1990s, however, men wore briefs for both life saving patrol and competing in surf carnivals.
SignificanceThese brief-style swimming trunks are representative of Surf Life Saving Club uniform designs made in Australia during the 1990s.Canterbuury, under license from Speedo
