DescriptionA sea-going certificate, No.734, for a foreign going steamship issued by the Department of Navigation, New South Wales to SS TIME. Sea-going certificates record the name, port of registry and official number, and registered tonnage of the motor ship; the name of the master and number of his certificate; the number of persons and crew it is deemed fit to carry; details of boats, life-saving appliances and equipment required to be carried; the authorised maximum pressure on the safety valves of the air receiver; the running number of the certificate; and the date of issue and expiry.HistorySS TIME was owned by Australian Steamships Pty. Ltd., Melbourne. It was built at J. Priestman & Co. in 1913. On August 23rd, 1949, SS TIME was on voyage from Sydney to Melbourne with a cargo of sugar (3,000 tons), timber, general cargo and coal, when she was wrecked on Corsair Rock, entrance of Port Philip Bay. Salvage divers later recalled that the ship's hold filled with molasses due to the cargo of sugar onboard and even the engine room had become coated in it.
