History'ACT 6' was a Steam Turbine driven Refrigerated and General Cargo Container Ship, built by Bremer Vulkan at Bremen-Vegesack, Germany, 1972. It was one of the second generation of container ships built for Associated Container Transportation Ltd (ACT), an amalgamation of companies including Blue Star Line. It operated on two basic routes: from UK and Europe to Australia and New Zealand by the Cape of Good Hope, then back through the Panama Canal or around Cape Horn to Europe. The second route was from eastern USA via Panama to Australia and New Zealand. Australian ports were Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Fremantle. New Zealand ports were Wellington, Lyttleton, Port Chalmers and Auckland.
The ship was originally built with a steam generating plant driving turbines. In 1987, after a fuel crisis, it was re-engined as a motor ship in Japan. In 1991 ACT split up, and the ship was transferred to the Blue Star Line and re-named the 'Queensland Star'. It continued in service as part of the P&O Nedlloyd group. In 2003 it was sailed to Shanghai for demolition.
