DescriptionThis air polarogramme depicts helicopter and ship operation at Cape Roberts, Antarctica. The Cape Roberts project was undertaken from 1997 - 1999 by scientists from Australia, Germany, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Italy, New Zealand, and USA. Long drill cores were set up in the Ross Sea to reconstruct the glaciation history of Antarctica. Air polarogrammes or the aerogramme of the south, are light-weight airmail letter-sheets which feature a Polar scene.SignificanceThis collection is significant in representing a broad range of Antarctic philately interests (the study of stamps and postal history). It covers most of the countries who have bases in the white continent and are signatories to the Antarctic Treaty, including all of the Australian bases.
