Description This air polarogramme depicts the MV ICEBIRD off the Larsemann Hills AAT (Australian Antarctic Territory). Air polarogrammes or the aerogramme of the south, are light-weight airmail letter-sheets which feature a Polar scene. They are a distinctive part of Antarctic philately (the study of stamps and postal history). Polarogramme covers with various Antarctic stamps relating to bases, ships, expeditions, anniversaries and events are of particular interest.SignificanceThis collection is significant in representing a broad range of Antarctic philately interests. It covers most of the countries who have bases in the white continent and are signatories to the Antarctic Treaty, including all of the Australian bases.
