Commander Tim Crawford, CO of HMAS SIRIUS; Mrs Janine Nobbs (descendant of Phillip Gidley King, Second Lieutenant on board HMS SIRIUS 1788), Commissioning Guest of Honour. HMAS SIRIUS (formerly MT DELOS) is a double-hulled commercial tanker purchased by the Royal Australian Navy and converted into a fleet replenishment vessel to replace HMAS WESTRALIA. DELOS was built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea, purchased by the Australian Government on completition in 2004 and converted to her new role at Fremantle, Western Australia. In addition, a flight deck was fitted for helicopter operations. SIRIUS has transfer points for fuel, water and stores; can operate at sea by day and night; and is capable of replenishing two ships at a time.SignificanceThe booklet demonstrates the continuing traditions and ceremonial procedures of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and is a revealing source of information on HMAS SIRIUS.
