DescriptionFold-out passenger accommodation plan for Adelaide Steamship Company passenger liner MANUNDA. The brochure contains a detailed deck plan of the vessel on one side, on the reverse are photographs depicting the interior of the vessel. A coloured reproduction painting by John Allcot is also represented at the center.HistoryAdelaide Steamship Company was a major Australian shipping company operating from 1876 until 1972 when it sold the last of its ships although it continued other commercial activities. MV MANUNDA and MV MANOORA were popular passenger ships on the Australian inter-state routes. MANUNDA served in Adelaide SS Co's fleet from 1929 to 1956. During World War II it was requisitioned as a hospital ship. It was broken up in 1957. MANOORA served in the coastal trade from 1935 until 1961, with the exception of the years 1939-1949, when it was requisitioned by the RAN and used for wartime and post-war purposes.SignificancePeter Plowman, Passenger Ships of Australia and New Zealand, volume II, 1913-1980, Sydney 1981.
