DescriptionThis information security poster was issued by the United States National Security Agency in 2005. The poster is double-sided with one side featuring a clock face with security risks at each of the hour marks. The other side shows an image of a cup of coffee with the outline of North and South America floating on it.HistoryIn 2005 the United States National Security Agency initiated an awareness campaign to stress the importance of information security in wartime. This campaign was patterned after the security awareness efforts used in World War II. The images were published in the Military Times newspaper and a series of prints were enlarged to poster size and hung in military facilities.
American artist Richard Waldrep created the artwork for the prints. Waldrep, a full-time illustrator, has created illustrations for advertising, publishing, editorials and corporate clients. His subjects have varied from American music, the Olympic Games and history, and his paintings have appeared on postage stamps in the United States.SignificanceThis poster reflects the heightened level of security after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York on 11 September 2001and the American governments emphasis on information security during the war in Iraq.
