DescriptionThis photograph captures several of BRITANNIA's competitors sailing in a weekly race on the calm waters of Sydney Harbour. Seen on the far right is SWASTIKA and next to it is MISSISSIPPI and on the far left is the FLORRIE. Two large vessels can be seen behind the skiffs.History18ft. skiff racing was an entertaining sport for spectators. Its origins are attributed to Mark Foy and a group of businessmen who founded the Sydney Flying Yacht Squadron, reportedly established on 19 October 1891. BRITANNIA and its skipper Georgie Robinson were prominent figures in 18ft. skiff racing between the two world wars.
