DescriptionAdzes are used for removing heavy waste, levelling, shaping or trimming the surfces of timber. An adze is swung in a circular manner and the workman uses his chest or thigh as a 'stop' to prevent the arm from swinging too far and causing an accident.HistoryThis tool was used by the donor’s father Alfred Luther Lake, a British shipwright who migrated to Australia in 1911 and worked at Harbour Trust, Cockatoo Island dockyard, Chapman's dock, Mort's dock and Drakes shipyards.1910-1950
