HistoryFour-masted steel barque LYDERHORN was built in 1892 for J.R. De Wolf & Son by T.R. Oswald & Co. of Milford Haven, Wales. LYDERHORN was sold in 1910 to Knöhr & Burchard, Hamburg, and renamed JERSBEK. This image may depict LYDERHORN's 1897 visit to Sydney. In this instance the vessel arrived from Cheminus, Canada, bringing one of the largest cargoes of lumber ever shipped to Sydney at that time.SignificanceThe Hall photographic collection provides an important pictorial record of recreational boating in Sydney Harbour from the 1890s to the 1930s. The collection documents the lively sailing scene in Sydney during this period and features images of vessels ranging from large racing and cruising yachts to the great array of skiffs and the emerging technologies of motorboats. Images of many of Sydney Harbour's iconic vessels are also included in this visual record.
