DescriptionAnnette Mathilda Wilhelmina Lewis travelled from Sydney to Newcastle on Tyne in 1907 via Canada. On this pillow slip she has embroidered the signatures of her fellow passengers on the leg between Hong Kong, departing 12 May, and Vancouver, arriving 18 May. She has embroidered the name of the liner SS EMPRESS OF CHINA they travelled on and the house flag of the shipping company Canadian Pacific Railway Company.HistoryAnnette Mathilda Wilhelmina Lewis travelled from Sydney to Newcastle on Tyne in 1907 via Canada. On the first leg of the journey, Sydney to Singapore on the SS GUTHRIE, she met future husband Martin MacGilivray who was second engineer of that ship. She then travelled on the Canadian Pacific Railway Company ships the EMPRESS OF CHINA, to Vancouver, and the EMPRESS OF IRELAND to the United Kingdom. Annette was back in Sydney in 1908, marrying Martin MacGilivray in 1909 in Waterloo, Sydney.
