DescriptionWooden honour board from McIlwraith McEacharn Limited, 1914 - 1918.HistoryMcIlwraith McEacharn, also known as the Scottish Line, was established in 1875. For 90 Years the company traded successfully between Europe and Australia until in 1964 McIlwraith McEacharn joined with Adelaide Steamships to create the 3rd Party Ship Management entity called Associated Steamships Pty Ltd. The company's ships were requistioned in both wars, of particular note was the hosital ship KAROOLA and KATOOMA as a troopship.SignificanceThe McIlwraith McEacharn company was a successful early shipping company established in 187 by Sir Malcolm Donald McEacharn and Andrew McIlwraith. It operated between the United Kingdom and the Australia/Pacific area and was significant in helping develop the frozen meat trade.
