DescriptionThis black and white photographic postcard of a modified Leander class cruiser shows the double gun turrets from the bridge above it. Produced by the Rose Stereograph Company in Armadale, Victoria, this postcard is number 148 in a series of cards featuring Royal Australian Navy ships.SignificanceThis postcard is an interesting record of the promotion of the modified Leander class cruiser by the Royal Australian Navy. HMAS PERTH, HOBART and SYDNEY were the three Leander-class ships that were modified and sold to the Royal Australian Navy. Their machinery and propulsion were organised in two separate units to allow the ships to continue to operate if one set were damaged.
