DescriptionThis black and white photographic postcard shows the bow of a modified Leander class cruiser of the Royal Australian Navy. The dramatic perspective from the double gun turret looks down on the bow which is just visible through clouds of gun smoke.SignificanceThis postcard is a record of the modified Leander class cruiser of the Royal Australian Navy. HMAS PERTH, HOBART and SYDNEY were the three Leander-class ships that were modified and sold to the RAN. Their machinery and propulsion were organised in two separate units to allow the ships to continue to operate if one set were damaged.
