DescriptionThis dark blue one piece swimsuit was made by Sea Breeze in the 1950s. A feminine shape has been created with a gathered butterfly bodice, a sweetheart neckline and a padded bust. The cotton swimsuit is fully lined and has a half skirt for modesty, a shirred back and adjustable shoulder straps. Yellow cotton ric rac trim has been used to embellish the neckline and the front of the bodice.
HistoryFrom the late 1940s cotton swimsuits and sunsuits were often shaped and textured with shirring, smocking and contrasting panels to create a curvaceous and ultra-feminine silhouette emphasising the bust, waistline and hips.SignificanceThis swimsuit is representative of 1950s Australian women's beachwear fashions in the 1950s.
