DescriptionThis poster shows American sailors carrying crates while unloading a landing craft in the sun drenched Pacific. It aims to educate factory workers of the need to pack supplies effectively for transport. It was issued by the US Navy's Industrial Incentives Division as part of a wider campaign to increase factory output. HistoryFactory productivity on the home front was a major theme in the war campaign and a key way people could support the war. Between 1941 and 1945, American industry produced over 300,000 planes, 124,000 ships, and millions of other vehicles. Production posters emphasised the equal responsibility of soldiers and factory workers. SignificanceIt is unusal to see images of routine manual labour in wartime propaganda posters. More often posters depicted graphic scenes of battle to make their point.
