The Tweed Heads & Coolangatta Life Saving Club is officially recognised as the oldest surf lifesaving club in Queensland, established 1911.HistoryIn 1911, the Tweed Heads and Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club was formed on the well known beach, Greenmount. This was the first lifesaving club to be formed in Queensland. The club exhibited a magnificent tradition over the years, of which this material is part of.SignificanceThe original pennant is a rare, surviving, and intact piece of life saving club memorabilia. It was used between 1911 and 1933. It may have been the first club pennant to be used in Queensland. The pennant is in original club colours of brown and blue. The Tweed Heads and Coolangatta Surf Club colours were changed to maroon and gold in 1933.
