This intimate memento of a voyage hints at the ways migrants looked when they disembarked, and how their personal appearance branded them as New Australians or the more pejorative 'balts', 'wogs', or 'reffos'. The clothing tells us much about the sort of place Mr Schleinitz emigrated from, and his expectations of the Australian climate.
