DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [989] consists of photographs taken by amateur ferry and speed boating historian Graeme Andrews relating to inshore and offshore speedboat racing. The images depict various events including Sydney and Adelaide boat shows, Sea World, De Havilland speed boat tests, boating on the Georges River and Hen and Chicken Bay. A range of vessels are represented including SAVAGE ATLANTIC, STEBER, PRIDE ALBATROSS, SHARK CAT, the ENDEAVOUR replica, De Havilland TITAN and TROJAN, VOSHKOD, SEAFARER VENUS, SEASPORT and CIGARETTE 210.SignificanceThis collection illustrates the boom era of speedboating in the decades after World War II. The increasing affordability and widespread use of cars, engines and the advent of mass production made speedboating affordable and the sport became a popular pastime.
