The series consists of four membership cards; two pilot rosters; one payment statement; three newspaper clippings; three maps; six drawings and one illustration by Beeham; one information folder; one fax; 10 pilot's lists; seven pilot's ships extracts and six notes; four memorandums; 18 documents recorded by and relating to Beeham; two poll results; one set of meeting Minutes; one notebook; five references; 40 personal and pilot's reports; 47 letters relating to vessels Beeham served on, and his retirement; 41 negatives, one photograph album and 29 photographs depicting Beeham piloting vessels, onboard the CASTEL FELICE and GOOLARA pilot, views of the tug WOONA, a pilot's and tug master's party, and a raised m.s.b. ensign in commemoration of Beeham's twenty years of pilot service.HistoryThe extensive career of Captain Eric Beeham spans the period from 1936 to 1982, during which there was a great deal of change in the Australian commercial and industrial shipping industries. Beeham first went to sea as a cadet with P&O working on RMS MALOJA and RMS STRATHNAVER in 1936. During World War II Beeham worked on troopships and minesweepers and commanded the patrol boat HMAS NEROUS amongst others. After the war he worked for a number of different shipping companies including Australian & Oriental Line, later becoming a pilot for the Maritime Services Board in NSW.
