The series consists of one information folder relating to shipwrights long service leave; 19 booklets relating to Amalgamated Engineering Union rules, Ship Joiners Society of Australia log of claims, The Seamen's Award, Federated Shipwright and Constructors' Union Federal Reports, guide to NSW Workers' Compensation Act, and Industrial Arbitration Act; one information sheet; two voting leaflets; three monthly bulletins to Branch Secretaries and Federal Councillors; one souvenir of the 90th Anniversary Annual Ball and one invitation to the opening of the Labor Council Building.HistoryThe Federated Shipwrights and Ship Constructors’ Association of Australia was initially registered in January 1916 as the Federated Shipwrights of Australia. It was made up of members who specialized in ship repair and construction. Later that year it changed its name to the Federated Shipwrights’ Ship Constructors’ & Boat Builders’ Association of Australia and then again to the Federated Shipwrights Ship Constructors Naval Architects Ships Draughtsmen and Boat Builders of Australia by the end of 1917. In 1933 the union changed its name again to the Federated Shipwrights’ & Ship Constructors’ Assocation of Australia. In 1976 the union merged with the Amalgamated Metal Workers’ Union to form the Amalgamated Metal Workers’ & Shipwrights’ Union.1890-1950
