DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [013] consists of photographs of skiff racing collected Sydney Flying Squadron administrator Allan Moran. They depicts the skiffs ARLINE, HC PRESS, MISS TERYLENE, ACE, ARGO, JAN III, MARJORIE TOO, THELMA, TOP WEIGHT, SAM LANDS, MISS TERYLENE, DESDEMONDA and BETTY sailing on Sydney Harbour. They also capture Allan and Thelma Moran and their children and scenes of harbour parties.HistoryAllan Moran began sailing on the THELMA with the Birchgrove 14-foot sailing club around 1924. He also sailed on the 14-foot skiff MISSOURI. During the late 1930s and early 1940s Allan made several model skiffs which were raced in Birchgrove and Sydney Harbour. In 1946 Allan became Assistant Secretary of the Sydney Flying Squadron and carried out official duties until he retired in the early 1960s over the controversial decision to allow the revolutionary designed TAIPAN with its smaller crew to race against the more conventional 18-foot skiffs with their larger crew.
