BiographyCharles Turner was a British painter specialising in landscape and marine views. He was proficient in both watercolours and oils, exhibiting at the Royal Academy in London as well as in Manchester and Liverpool. Turner's best known works date from the war years. In World War I he served in the Royal Air Force and in World War II he worked as an official war artist. Many of his oil and watercolour paintings of the two World Wars are held by the National Maritime Museum and the Imperial War Museum in London. Turner provided illustrations for the Illustrated London News and the Sphere magazine. He was commissioned to paint images of the QUEEN MARY and QUEEN ELIZABETH for Cunard which were sold as postcards and also produced publicity material for other shipping lines.
