BiographyDavid Stone Martin began his career as a graphic designer and worked as an assistant to Ben Shahn, who designed murals for Chicago's World Fair. He later worked as artist correspondent for Life Magazine during World War II and produced illustrations for music albums, mostly jazz. He designed covers for more than 400 records, including the performers Clef, Norgren, Verve, Charlie Parker, Billy Holiday, and Lester Young. His work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.
