DescriptionThis manuscript poem illustrates the circumstances before and during the eventual wreck of the CAWARRA. The first stanza reads 'So for northern cities steering, / proudly speeds "Cawarra" Fair / snowy foam around her plashing/ pennon streaming free in air...' There are seventeen stanzas in total.HistoryThe SS CAWARRA was a paddle-steamer that sank on 12 July 1866 in Newcastle harbour, New South Wales.
