This photograph was taken at 173-175 Elizabeth Street.HistoryTooth and Company was the major beer brewer company in New South Wales and is one of Australia's oldest companies. Established in 1835 by John Tooth and John Newnham the company was incorporated by 1888. Tooth and Company brewers were responsible for KB Lager and Kent Old Brown, which remains in production today.SignificanceThe Samuel J Hood photographic collection records an extensive range of images depicting life in Sydney from the 1890s through to the early 1950s. Hood was regarded as an important figure in early Australian photojournalism. This is one of the few photographs from the collection depicting early Sydney, taken before Hood's time as a photojournalist.
