DescriptionBULLAREN is shown at the F & S Buoy Neutral Bay on Sunday morning the 4 June 1933. This image was captured at 11.25am on a boat travelling from Mosman to Circular Quay via Cremorne. It shows BULLAREN in Sydney Harbour on a dull and rainy day during south easterly winds.HistoryBULLAREN was a Swedish cargo vessel of 5,722 tons built in 1918 by Gotaverken at Gothenburg, Sweden. It was owned by Rederi AB Transatlantic at Gothenburg. In 1940 it was renamed TANGA and in 1961 renamed PAMARU. It was scrapped in May 1962.SignificanceThis photograph is part of the F G Wilkinson Photograph Collection, comprising more than 700 glass plate negatives of ships in Sydney Harbour between 1919 and 1936. The collection provides an extensive and well-documented coverage of the changing styles of shipping in the port of Sydney before the gradual decline of the coastal trade, and in a period which was probably the peak reached by commercial shipping in Australia. The backgrounds also reveal the changing face of the city and harbour foreshores.
