DescriptionThis patch was designed for the Royal Australian Navy Logistic Support Element Middle East Unit, whose primary tasks are moving stores, mail, spare parts and personnel. This is the Navy's longest serving operational unit overseas and one of the least known in the Australian Defence force. It has been based in the Middle East since the first Gulf War providing logistical support and resources to RAN units and detachments on operational assignments.HistoryThe Royal Australian Navy Logistic Support Element - Middle East (LSE-ME) is a small team currently operating from the island of Bahrain in the Persian Gulf. Their primary tasks involve the movement of stores, mail, spare parts and personnel. The Navy's longest serving operational unit overseas is also one of the ADF's least known. The unit has been based in the Middle East since the first Gulf War to provide logistic support and resources to sustain RAN units and detachments on operational assignment to the Middle East Area of Operations. The small, dedicated team provides a wide range of support services from meeting personnel and medical needs to arranging Replenishments at Sea to organising shore respite for Ships' companies and everything in between. The unit's motto 'Absolutely Anything Anywhere' is put into practical use daily.SignificanceThis patch represents the efforts undertaken by Australians serving overseas and the support given to personnel and Allied troops. The work of the quiet but continuous unit supports the needs of all troops in many different situations.St Johns Ambulance Association
