DescriptionA panoramic photograph of Sydney Harbour, about 1920, by E.B.Studios, 278 George Street Sydney [John H Enemark]. The view is directly across the Botanical Gardens into Farm Cove where four warships moored, across to Garden Island naval base with the sheerlegs visible, north to Kirribilli and towards Middle Harbour, and south-east to the head of Wooloomooloo Bay showing extensive wharf buildings. Other naval ships and numerous cargo steamships are seen around the harbour.HistoryE.B. Studios was a partnership between John H Enemark and Hilda Bridges, operating at 278 George Street Sydney between 1917 and 1926. His niece Anne M Enemark took over the business after his death. Enemark took numerous panoramic photographs in Sydney, New South Wales country towns, and Canberra. Collections of these photographs are held at the National Library of Australia and at the State Library of Victoria.SignificanceThe photograph provides a view of the vessels, activities, naval presence, and important maritime locations on the harbour in the decade before Sydney Harbour Bridge was built.
