DescriptionThis photograph shows four of BRITANNIA's crew members, including a woman, hanging over the side, during the Queen of the Waves race, an event held once a year to raise funds for charity. It was the one day a year that women sailed on the boats as crew.History18ft skiff racing was an entertaining sport for spectators. Its origins are attributed to Mark Foy and a group of businessmen who founded the Sydney Flying Yacht Squadron in October 1891. BRITANNIA and its skipper Georgie Robinson were prominent figures in 18ft skiff racing between the two world wars.
