HistoryIn this painting, Djurritijini depicts two water pythons of the Arafura Swamp. Karritjarr, the swamp pythons, represent the beginning of the wet season. By standing up on their tails and breathing heavily, the vapour from their mouths create storm clouds and their tongues cause lightning to appear in the sky. Heavy rain arrives falls on the land once the clouds burst.
SignificanceThe Arafura Swamp is an important susbsiance source for the traditional owners of the land, the Yolngu.
