DescriptionA black and white image by David Iacono depicting a rock arch on the O Le Pupu Lava Coast on the island of Upolo in Samoa.
HistoryThis image was taken in the O L Pupu-Pu’e National Park of Samoa. The park is well known for its coastal rock formations created by a lava flow and weathered over thousands of years by the sea.
O le Pūpū Puē (O.L.P.P.) National Park was officially added to the List of the Wetlands of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in October 2017.
SignificanceThis photograph is part of a series of images taken by David Iacono that depict the traditional landscape and lifestyle of the Pacific Island of Samoa. Iacono attempts to capture the reality of Samoan life rather than that experienced by tourists of expatriates.
