DescriptionThis medallion was produced to commemorate Colin Quincey's historic solo crossing of the Tasman Sea in his rowing boat TASMAN TRESPASSER in 1977. He became the first person to successfully row the Tasman Sea solo and unassisted. Quincey departed from New Zealand's Hokianga Harbour and arrived at Marcus Beach, Queensland, Australia on 10 April 1977 after a voyage lasting 63 Days and 7 hours.HistoryIn 1977 Colin Quincey became the first person to successfully row the Tasman Sea solo and unassisted in the TASMAN TRESPASSER, a fibreglass Dory rowing boat. He departed from New Zealand's Hokianga Harbour and arrived at Marcus Beach,Queensland, Australia on 10 April 1977, after sucessfully completing a voyage lasting 63 Days and 7 hours. In December 2009 Shaun Quincey, Colin's son and an experienced surf boat rower, become the second person to row the Tasman and the first to row solo from Australia to New Zealand. His rowing boat was named the TASMAN TRESPASSER 2. Both of these rowing boats and are housed at the Voyager Maritime Museum in Auckland, New Zealand.
