DescriptionThis engraving is one of 15 published in 'Treatise on the Theory and Practice of Naval Architecture: Being the Article 'Ship-Building' in the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Seventh Edition' written by naval architect Augustin F B Creuze and published between 1830 and 1842.
The engraving depicts starboard and aft plans of a ship's bow. The first image details the middle line, stern post, bevelling edge, floor marks and sill marks. The second details the upper bow view, including the cheeks, cathead, knee and decking.SignificanceThis engraving comes from the first edition of the separate book issue of Creuze's highly influential article on naval architecture.
