The Sydney Morning Herald on 26 September, 1938 announced: "Greenwich 16 Sailing Club The Minister of Health, Mr Fitzsimmons opened a clubhouse for the Greenwich 16 foot Sailing Club on Saturday afternoon. Mr Fitzsimmons said there was no more healthy recreation than sailing "I am strongly in favour of the sport which our splendid harbour makes possible in a wonderful way, and to inculcate a love of this in the youth of the community is a splendid thing." The clubhouse has accommodation for the boats and provision for recreation. It was built with the assistance of the Lane Cove Council and local supporters."SignificanceSkiff racing was incredibly popular on Sydney Harbour and remains a recreational and competitive staple on weekends to this day. For competitors and spectators alike, the speed and agility of this class of smaller boats is hard to beat.
