HistoryThe ARGYLLSHIRE was built in 1911 as a passenger/refigerated cargo vessel by Scottish Shire Line Ltd. She was leased by the Commonweath as a troopship for WW1 duties and was converted at Cockatoo Island Drydock, Sydney to transport 845 troops and 392 horses.
The ARGYLLSHIRE undertook seven transport voyages from Australia from the18th October 1914 until the final voyage from Fremantle on 9th November 1916.
Despite being hit by a German torpedo in February 1917 the ARGYLLSHIRE continued in her duties until 1919 when she was returned to commercial services.
After being renamed the CLAN URQUHART in 1932, the ship was scuttled in 1937.
