DescriptionThe Union Jack and Australian flag are drawn back to reveal the Royal Australian Navy protected cruiser HMAS MELBOURNE(I). The reverse of the postcard reveals it is a 'Patriotic Post Card', issued during the 1914-1916 campaign against Germany and Austria (WWI).SignificanceThis postcard is an excellent example of patriotic post cards that were produced during World War I. At the height of the British-German naval race, this card emphasised the unity of the imperial family through the slogan of 'One King, One Fleet, One Nation'.
