DescriptionA black and white photograph depicting an aerial view of the outer harbour of Port Adelaide, South Australia. The warship HMAS QUEENBOROUGH can be seen to the right with bunting fore and aft. There are many sailing boats around the ship to celebrate the South Australian Yacht Squadron's centenary regatta.
On the reverse is a typed inscription reading 'Some of the 500 yachts of all classes that took part in the South Australian Yacht Squadrons Centenary Regatta, sailing past the flagship, HMAS QUEENBOROUGH. Photo by Bernard van Elsen.'SignificanceThis image is part of the Graeme Andrews Collection. Andrews is an Honorary Life member of Sydney Heritage Fleet who photographed Australian shipping at his workplace and elsewhere for more than 50 years. He collected photographs and “sea-pix” from other sources, such as private snapshots going back more than 100 years.
Graeme Andrews also wrote extensively about the powerboat scene in Sydney - including documenting many of the races that took place each weekend along its waterways.
