DescriptionThis archive series consists of miscellaneous tickets collected by Miss Elsie Jackson during her travels. It includes transportation tickets for trams, trains, ferries and buses; a weight ticket; theatre ticket; museum and garden ticket; and exchange tickets.HistoryMrs Elsie Ashdown (nee Jackson) (1888-1975) undertook two cruises from Sydney to London over the course of 25 years. During her first voyage from Sydney to London in 1931, Elsie travelled third class on the Orient liner ORONTES via Cairo and the Suez Canal. After a week-long English tour, Elsie took an overland trip through Europe, followed by a second cruise on ORONTES to Norway and the northern capitals. Elsie returned to Sydney via Canada and the Americas. In 1956, travelling under her married name, Elsie undertook a second voyage on the Orient line to London, South Africa, South America and around the coast of Australia to Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania and back to Sydney.
