BiographyRobert Lionel Aloysius Rose was born on 28 June 1917. He was serving as Bosun on the MAREEBA when it was shelled and sunk by a German raider off Colombo in the Indian Ocean on 26 June 1941. He was married with three children, Kathleen, Robert and Elva, at this time. On his return from imprisonment in German in 1945 he went back to sea in coastal ships, continuing to work as Bosun until he retired at the age of 60. He died on 15 September 1989.
