BiographySamuel William Partridge was born in London and was a hymn-writer and Evangelical preacher who went on to issue similar types of books and magazines for most of the nineteenth century. He began his printing career as a reader at “Woodfall & Kinder' and subsequently joined Daniel Oakley to form “Partridge & Oakley.” After this partnership dissolved Partridge reorganized under the name “S. W. Partridge & Co.”
Partridge was an author poetry and hymns and most notably wrote “Upward and Onward,” a book of Christian poetry. The British Workman was his signature publication and he retired in 1882.
