DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [018] consists of material collected by distinguished Australian rower Kevyn Parke Webb relating to rowing in Portugal. It includes a brochure advertising the Figueroa ad Fez region, a rowing time card, fact sheet for the Coupe Salazar trophy, a commemorative leaflet for the Portuguese rowing team of the 1948 Olympics, five letters, a magazine clipping depicting the River Douro in Oporto and the Oporto Rowing Club, eight regatta programs, and a club report.HistoryKevyn Parke Webb’s distinguished rowing career began in 1938 when he joined Haberfield Rowing Club in Sydney. In 1939 he won the Walker and Hall cup and went on to represent Australia in the New Zealand Centennial Games of 1939-1940. Webb represented Australia at numerous games, including the 1950 empire games in Auckland, Canterbury Centennial Games 1950 - 1951, Cardiff Empire Games 1957 - 1958, and was team captain for the Australian squad during the Olympic Games at Lake Albano, Rome. Webb appears to have competed until the 1960s, being heavily involved with rowing club committees and associations from the 1940s through to 1987, when he became president of the New South Wales Rowing Association.
