DescriptionThis envelope and stamp features the Ocean Frontiers-owned research explorer ice ship SIR HUBERT WILKINS which operated in the Antarctic from 2000 - 2003. A purple ink stamp on the envelope reads "Conservation of Mawson's Huts, Cape Denison Antarctica. 1 January 2001".SignificanceThis collection is significant in representing a broad range of Antarctic philately interests (the study of stamps and postal history). It covers most of the countries who have bases in the white continent and are signatories to the Antarctic Treaty, including all of the Australian bases.
