DescriptionThis photograph of BRITANNIA, captured on the left, with two other skiffs, competing in a weekly sailing race held on Sydney Harbour. Visible behind the skiffs is one of teh three steam vessels enabling spectators to view the race from the water.History18ft. skiff racing was an entertaining sport for spectators. Its origins are attributed to Mark Foy and a group of businessmen who founded the Sydney Flying Yacht Squadron, reportedly established on 19 October 1891. BRITANNIA and its skipper Georgie Robinson were prominent figures in 18ft. skiff racing between the two world wars.
