DescriptionThis photograph captures BRITANNIA and crew members sailing in a weekly race on Sydney Harbour. A crew member is standing between the three large sails facing the photographer. Visible in the background is another skiff and a steam vessel enabling spectators to watch the race from the water.History18ft. skiff racing was an entertaining sport for spectators. Its origins are attributed to Mark Foy and a group of businessmen who founded the Sydney Flying Yacht Squadron, reportedly established on 19 October 1891. BRITANNIA and its skipper Georgie Robinson were prominent figures in 18ft. skiff racing between the two world wars.
